Analgesic Nephropathy
  • consumption of large quantities of acetaminophen when combined with aspirin
  • Acetaminophen free radicals damage the renal tubules in the medulla
  • Aspirin inhibits renal synthesis of PGE2 (which normally vasodilates) and leads to ischemia of the renal medulla
  • this is a dose dependent toxicity unlike Nephrotoxic ATN caused by NSAIDs and penicillins
