Conn Syndrome
  • endocrine disorder
  • primary aldosternonism
  • often due to a benign adenoma in the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal cortex. The oversecretion of aldosterone causes an increase in the renal distal tubular secretion of K+ and H+ (causing hypokalemia [K+] and metabolic alkalosis [H+]) and an increase in the reabsorption of Na+ (causing hypernatremia). The reabsorption of sodium leads to water retention and hypertension.
