Ischemic ATN
- Common type of ATN
- Most often caused by prerenal axotemia due to hypovolemia
- any drop is CO can cause Ischemic ATN
- Pathology
- ischemia damages the endothelial cells —> decrease GFR
- ischemia damages the tubule cells —> renal tubular casts/muddy brown casts
- sites of damage: proximal tubule & thick ascending limb in non-focal pattern
- rupture of basement membrane
- Clinical
- Reversible, but fatal if untreated
- death most often occurs in early oliguric phase
