  • Abnormal bone architecture
  • Mosaic bone pattern
  • Possibly viral in origin
  • Pathology - 3 phases
    • lytic phase
    • Mixed phase of osteosclerosis and osteolysis
    • sclerotic burn out phase
  • increase in both osteoblastic and osteoclastic function
  • causes increase in AV shunts which can leads to high-output heart failure
  • increased levels of ALP (due to osteoblastic activity)
  • risk of developing osteogenic sarcoma

board hints: increase in hat size, hearing loss (due to auditory foramen narrowing), risk of osteogenic sarcoma
